Age Calculator

Find your exact age in years, months, and days from your date of birth, plus days to your next birthday.

How Age Calculator works

Working out an exact age sounds trivial until you try to do it in your head across leap years and months of different lengths. This Age Calculator takes a date of birth and a reference date and gives you the precise age in years, months, and days, along with how many days remain until the next birthday, so you never have to count on your fingers or guess again.

You pick your date of birth, and the tool defaults the second date to today unless you set it to something else, such as a future event or a past milestone. It instantly breaks the gap into complete years, then the leftover months, then the remaining days, and shows the countdown to the upcoming birthday. Changing either date updates everything at once, which makes it easy to check an age as of a specific deadline.

The method counts full calendar units rather than dividing by an average. It finds how many whole years fit between the two dates, then the whole months left over, then the days, borrowing correctly from the previous month's real length and accounting for leap years so February is handled properly. As an example, from 15 March 2000 to 5 August 2026 is 26 years, 4 months, and 21 days, not a rounded 26 and a bit. That precision is what separates a real age calculation from a quick estimate.

Use this instead of subtracting years in your head whenever the exact figure matters, such as an eligibility cutoff, a form that asks for age as of a certain date, or a document that needs years, months, and days. A simple year subtraction can be off by a year depending on whether the birthday has already passed, and this avoids that classic mistake.

People use it to check age eligibility for a job, exam, or pension scheme as of a deadline, to work out a child's exact age in months for a milestone, to count down to a birthday or anniversary, and to find the gap between any two dates for a project or a personal record. It works for dates in the past and the future alike.

Everything is computed in your browser. The dates you enter are never uploaded, there is no sign-up, and nothing is saved once you leave, so the only limit is your device. Use it as many times as you like for any pair of dates.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle leap years correctly?

Yes, it accounts for leap years, so a 29 February birthday and the extra day in leap years are counted properly. This is exactly where quick mental math tends to slip, and the calculator borrows the right number of days from each month.

Can I calculate age as of a future or past date?

Yes, you can set the reference date to anything, not just today. That makes it easy to answer questions like how old someone will be on a specific future deadline or how old they were on a past event.

Why does it show months and days, not just years?

Because many forms, eligibility rules, and milestones need the full breakdown, especially for children where a few months matter. Rounding to whole years hides information that can change an answer, so the tool keeps all three units.

How does it count the days until my next birthday?

It looks ahead to the next occurrence of your birth date after the reference date and counts the calendar days in between. If your birthday is today, the countdown reflects that rather than jumping a full year.

What date format should I use?

Use the date picker the tool provides, which avoids the common day-month versus month-day confusion entirely. Selecting from the calendar means there is no ambiguity about which number is the day and which is the month.

Can it measure the gap between two arbitrary dates?

Yes, since it simply measures the distance between whatever two dates you set, it works for any pair, not only birthdays. That is handy for counting the length of a project, a trip, or a subscription.

Is my date of birth stored anywhere?

No, the calculation happens entirely on your device and nothing you enter is uploaded or saved after you close the page. You can use it freely without creating an account.
